Boko Haram Renames Another Town, Calls It ‘House Of Wisdom’
The Islamists had seized the town of Mubi in Adamawa state last week and had renamed it Madinatul Islam, meaning
“City of Islam”. Gwoza, in neighbouring Borno state which was captured in July is now being called Darul Hikma or “House of Wisdom”, multiple residents told AFP.
The extremists are believed to control more than two dozen towns and villages in Nigeria’s far northeast and sources have raised concerns that the terrorists may be aiming for Yola, Adamawa State capital. “They have given new names to Gwoza and Mubi, which they say are now part of their Islamic state,” said Ahmad Maishanu, who fled Mubi with his mother on Wednesday to Yola. The federal government had on October 17 announced it had agreed a ceasefire with the Boko Haram sect, but a recently released video, believed to be from the sect, has dismissed the government’s claim, with attacks increasing across the country. The military had since regrouped to flush out the insurgents.
