First Lady Advocates Elimination Of Harmful Widowhood Practices
The first lady made appeal in Abuja when she received a delegation of women from Kogi, led by the Governor’s wife, Hajia Halima Wada,
during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa.She underscored the need to support government programmes seeking to enhance the well-being of women. Jonathan listed such programmes to include education of women on family planning, safe motherhood and dangers of early marriage.“You must also advocate for the elimination of harmful widowhood practices”, the first lady said.She charged women to acknowledge their critical roles of bringing up children to be responsible citizens, saying “remember that children of today are leaders of tomorrow”.Jonathan also charged women to continue to be peace makers and bridge builders, adding that no meaningful development can take place when there is no security of lives and property. Earlier, Mrs Wada commended the first lady for her commitment to the liberation of humanity and affection for the less privileged and downtrodden.Wada pledged the support of Kogi women to the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
