Son Stabs Father At Kentucky Church Service

Police said a man allegedly stabbed his father during a church service in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Bowling Green police told local media outlets the assailant was subdued by congregation members and security workers and taken into custody following the stabbing Sunday at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church in the 3200 block of Nashville Road.

The victim, whose identity was not released, was taken to a hospital where his condition wasn't immediately known.

Witness Ashlyn Rice was standing at the back of the crowded church when she heard a commotion toward the front. She said it happened near the end of the 9:30 a.m. service. She saw people run for the door and followed them.

"I heard some scuffling behind me," witness Pam Merry told NewsChannel 5. "I saw the son grab his dad and stab him several times in the side."

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Ethan A. Buckley. He has been charged with first degree assault-domestic violence.

Merry said the response from the security staff was quick. Co-pastor Dr. Jamie Ward was also credited for helping tackle down the suspect before anyone else got hurt.

"Everybody went into immediate action," Merry recalled. "My first thought was to make sure my grandson was safe."

Authorities said Buckley was lodged in the Warren County Jail. His bond and court date were not set as of Sunday night.

No other injuries were reported, and no further information was released.
